International Master florist Keith Stanley transforms botanical elements into structural works of art, drawing on four decades of expertise in Washington, DC’s vibrant floral scene. From his Capitol Hill studio, he bridges classical European techniques with contemporary design innovation.
As a Teaching Coach for the prestigious European Master Certification program in Bruges, Belgium—where he himself graduated in 2016—Keith helps shape the next generation of floral artists. His international credentials include the coveted International Master Florist certification from renowned designer Gregor Lersch at the Boerma Institute, and he serves as a certified instructor for the Sogetsu School of Ikebana.
Keith’s passion for structural botanical design has earned him invitations to create large-scale installations for elite European exhibitions, including the 2022 Floralien in Ghent and the 2022-2024 Hoogstraten Groenten and Bloemen in Belgium. Beyond his artistic practice, he shares his expertise through demonstrations and workshops, nurturing both professional florists and enthusiasts in the art of floral design.
Sogetsu Ikebana: Classical Form & Structural Design

A 3-hour workshop exploring spatial design through the principles of the Sogetsu School of Ikebana.
The class moves from classical Moribana to a structural design without kenzan, using the same suiban to explore how mechanics influence form.
Designed for florists and designers interested in line, balance, and minimal composition.

Participants create a traditional Moribana arrangement in a suiban using kenzan.
Focus on:
• Shin / Soe / Hikae proportion
• Angular placement
• Front-facing composition
• Negative space (Ma)
A study in line, balance, and restraint.

Part II — Structural Design (Without Kenzan)
The kenzan is removed and the same suiban becomes the base for a standing composition.
Participants explore:
• Branch interlock structure
• Natural compression and balance
• Subtle wire reinforcement
• Vertical tension and space
Branches provide the structure, while flowers remain secondary.

Deelnemers ontdekken:
• Takkenvergrendelingsstructuur
• Natuurlijke compressie en balans
• Subtiele draadversterking
• Verticale spanning en ruimte
Takken zorgen voor de structuur, terwijl bloemen secundair blijven.
